How do I add users to my VPS?

We do not recommend using root access for everything which is why you should always create additional users. By default, most FTP servers will not allow root access so you must create a user account before you can login via FTP.

Enter the following commands to create a new user with a password:

  1. useradd john (Adds user john to the system).
  2. passwd john 12345 (Sets the password for user john to 12345).

You should now be able to login via SSH and FTP with that username. To gain root access, simply type su and enter your root password when requested.
